Nystatin Oral (Mycostatin, Nilstat)

  Indications:

• Intestinal Candidiasis

• Oral Candidiasis (thrush)

  Contraindications:

• Known sensitivity to nystatin 

Precautions:

Pregnancy category A

Adverse Reactions (Side Effects):

• Relatively non-toxic

• GI effects with large doses: nausea, vomiting, diarrhea

Dosage:

Administered as an oral tablet, suspension or troche (lozenge/pastille)

Intestinal Candidiasis:

• 500,000-1,000,000 units tid until 48 hours after clinical cure

Oral Candidiasis:

• Suspension (applied ½ of dose on each side of mouth)

• Adults and Children: 400,000-600,000 units qid, swished and swallowed

• Infants: 200,000 units qid, applied (swabbed) onto internal cheek area

Troche:

• 200,000-400,000 (1-2 troches) 4-5 timers a day for up to 14 days
